A special fund for the sector primarily focused on mobile phones and high-value addition components will create the necessary momentum to build the $190 billion mobile phone industry with exports of $110 billion as envisaged in the National Policy on Electronics 2019, said Pankaj Mohindroo, chairman of the ICEA.

Featurphone prices to increase after PCBA duty hike

Currently, close to 300 million units of PCBA are used annually in the country out of which 160 million are used in smartphones, according to Indian Cellular & Electronics Association of India (ICEA). All these PCBAs are manufactured locally. It is the balance PCBAs used in feature phones and chargers which are imported and will attract the increased duty.
