WhatsApp responds to government; says it informed in September Indian users were impacted of malware

WhatsApp's response to the government on Friday comes amid allegations that it had withheld information about Indian citizens being among those affected by the widespread hacking. The Facebook-owned messaging platform sais it had informed the country’s Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) about the malware in the messaging application in May.

Pegasus spyware can target up to 50 phones at once

The spyware can monitor up to 500 phones in a year, but can only track a maximum of 50 at one go. He said it costs about $7-8 million per year to license Pegasus as per the sources on Pegasus' snooping capabilities. Allegedly the Israeli company developed a program that copied WhatsApp’s network traffic to target devices over the app’s servers.
