Small and medium businesses in India may have been slow to embrace technology ten years ago. But today, largely owing to the advances in digital applications — including high-speed wireless internet and wider use of smartphones — they have become willing converts.
The pandemic has done what even demonetisation couldn’t do — bring about a big shift in payments from cash to the digital. And it’s here to stay, even when things get back to normal, say industry specialists while cautioning about the threat cyberattacks pose to digital payments.
"Yes, we have received a notice from Google. We believe that the notice is unfair, but we are a small company and have already realigned our business strategy to comply with Google's guidelines," a Zomato spokesperson said in an e-mailed response.
Sameer Garde, president, Cisco, India and SAARC, told ET in an interview that more than 4 million trial licences were issued during the past six months across the country and average monthly usage had increased from nearly 1000 users a month before March to 900,000 users a month currently.
"Enterprises are relying on AI to maintain business continuity, transform how businesses operate and gain competitive advantage. India's AI spending will grow from USD 300.7 million in 2019 to USD 880.5 million in 2023 at a CAGR (Compound annual growth rate) of 30.8 per cent," as per IDC's Worldwide Artificial Intelligence Spending Guide Forecast.
The company will invest the funds in expanding its data centres and networks as well as new solar power projects in India. The company also launched its first 50 MW Solar Photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Solapur, Maharashtra, in partnership with Tata Power.
Google in April announced that anyone with a Google account was allowed to create free meetings with up to 100 people with no time limit till September 30 in the pandemic times.
